Timetable fit	This is the sixth in a series of units, dealing with Odysseus return voyage to Ithaca.
Group profile	There are 26 students in class, 13 boys and 13 girls.
Duration	One (1) teaching hour [45 minutes]
Assumptions	Students are pre-elementary (A1) level English learners. They have enough of the key vocabulary already to discuss mythology, as well as start writing short relevant texts.
Anticipated problems and solutions	Learners may be unsure of some key vocabulary in the presented videos; therefore, a powerpoint presentation, together with a related language task, will facilitate learning.

A. Read the story, then number the sentences:

Odysseus and his mates are sailing to the island of God Helios. They are very hungry. One day, Odysseus is sleeping. His men are killing some of Helios’ oxen and are eating them. While sailing again, Zeus is sending them a wild storm. The ship is broken and all the men die. Only Odysseus is alive. After ten days swimming in the sea, he arrives on Calypso island. Odysseus is staying there for seven years. Then with the help of Athena and Zeus, Calypso lets him go. Odysseus is making a raft and starts sailing again. But Poseidon is sending him a terrible storm, his raft is broken and he is in the sea, swimming for two days and two nights. On the third day, with the help of Leukothea, a nymph, he is arriving on an island.  Very tired, he is sleeping under an olive tree. This is the island of Faiakes. The next morning, Nafsika, the king’s daughter, and her friends are playing with a ball on the beach. She finds Odysseus, feels sorry for him and takes him to Alkinoos’ (her father’s) palace. They are all having dinner together when Dimodokos, the king’s musician, starts playing music and singing about the Greeks and the Trojan war. Odysseus starts crying and is telling them who he is. The next day, the Faiakes are making a new ship for Odysseus and are all sailing to Ithaki.
